Frequently Asked Questions

All the FAQs

What about my fitness/health?

Being in good shape is a must as well as having good health. For this, it is best to see your GP. They will be able to give you the right advice. We also work together with tankantwerpen.be. You can contact them for a bike fit, a full cardiological check-up and a training programme.

How many participants are in the group?

The group consists of 12 to 18 participants. We deliberately keep the groups small, which makes us more agile and allows you to form a real group. For the Colombia trips, our groups are limited to 16 participants. For Georgia, 14 participants

Are there any age limits for the trips?

Minimum age is 18 years, there is no maximum age. As long as your health allows, you can join.

How about insurance?

Everyone takes their own travel insurance. Why? Often, you already have good insurance and it is a waste to pay twice. It is important to check carefully whether your insurance covers repatriation for the countries in question. In addition, it is interesting to provide cancellation insurance.

Where do we sleep?

We sleep alternately in tents, local guesthouses, and ecolodges. On the rest day and the last day, we pamper ourselves a bit more. The luggage is transported from place A to B by jeep. So you don't have to carry your luggage on the bike.

What do we eat?

Lots of tasty, local, and fresh food. In the morning an egg, lunch on the way, delicious tomatoes, avocados, mango, etc... and as an energizer: plenty of bananas. We have dinner at our accommodation, from oven-baked pizzas, freshly caught fish to a nice barbecue. We obviously consider vegetarians.

MTB or gravel bike?

The course can be done by either MTB or gravel bike. Depending on the destination, there may be variation in the course and the suitable bike. We recommend using wider tyres for extra grip and comfort if needed. Your own bike flies with us or you can rent an MTB on site.

Rwanda
How many days of cycling & what is the difficulty level?

Eight cycling days are planned. Halfway through we enjoy a rest day and on the last day you can explore Kigali.

The number of km varies between 60 - 100km and the altimeters from 1,000 to 2,200hm! In total, we cycle just under 600km and 10,000 altimeters. Don't worry, shortened routes are available on some stages.

In Rwanda, climbing is tough. So it's best to be well prepared. You don't need to cycle 10,000km a year, on the other hand a good basic fitness is required. Say you've never sat on a bike before, but you run or swim regularly, it's best to jump on your bike about six months before departure. For a targeted training programme, visit our partner tankantwerpen.be.

A good bike and the right gears obviously help. You can do the course on an MTB or gravel bike. Your own bike flies with us. There are limited MTBs for rent in Kigali.

In Colombia, we cycle a minimum of 6 to 9 days. Depending on the participant. It's a gravel course, but more bumpy than in Rwanda. It's really for the mountain goats and calves biters among us.

With which airline do we travel?

To Rwanda, we will fly directly with Brussels Airlines.

Charities?
Veloglobe has selected projects in Rwanda that you as participants can sponsor. The projects are Rwanda Beyond & Rwanda Beyond. Our sponsorship consists of cycling clothing (size XS, S, M), bicycle parts (e.g. inner tubes), helmets, and children's books. You can collect the clothing within your own cycling club, your own wardrobe, and from cycling friends. The parts can be purchased or you may already have them lying around. The items brought will be delivered to projects on site. So you can see directly where it goes. This is of course not mandatory.
MTB or gravel bike?

The course can be done on either an MTB or a gravel bike. An MTB offers extra comfort thanks to its suspension and straight handlebars during descents (especially on the 2 optional sections on day 4). However, the course is only technically challenging for 8% MTB and contains 12% asphalt, making a gravel bike also excellent. If you opt for a gravel bike, however, it is recommended to use wider tyres (50mm) for extra grip and comfort. Your own bike flies with us. Or you can rent MTBs on site. There are also a limited number of e-MTBs for rent in Kigali.

Colombia
With which airline do we travel?

To Colombia, we fly direct with Air Europe.
